Jailhouse Inns: Minnesota Bed and Breakfasts
two-room suite, with a full bath and shower.
In Wykoff, Minn., a historic 1913 brick jail has been converted into the Wykoff Jail Haus Inn. The two-room inn includes a queen-sized bed, plus two original bunks in a jail cell – complete with the bars. The inn has a full bath and shower, and breakfast is served at the nearby Gateway Inn.
Not far away in Preston, in 1869 historic Fillmore County Jail, which was used as a jail until 1970, has been converted to the JailHouse Inn Bed & Breakfast. Guests can stay in traditionally decorated rooms, or rent the Cell Block Suite, with the original bars and a traditional jail-style sink and toilet.
For those traveling to central Minnesota, the Old Jail Bed & Breakfast offers overnight stays in the 1884 Taylors Falls Jail, which still has its original iron door and bars on the windows. Inside, the renovated jail now has a living room with wood fireplace, loft bedroom, private bath, full kitchen and private balcony.
These jailhouse stays offer a unique getaway with one great perk jails don’t usually offer – the opportunity to check out in the morning!
